Job description
SUMMARY
The Principal Electrical Engineer will be responsible for providing electrical and electronic engineering expertise in the definition, design, development, and testing of a wide variety of projects in the field of medical devices. This role includes collaborating with and advising engineers and designers from client companies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works as a key part of the product realization team, establishes technical approach, evaluates risk and provides engineering solutions that meet or exceed the established product requirements.
- Provides work direction to more junior members of the engineering staff.
- Designs microprocessor-based systems including electronic hardware, software and analog and digital input and output circuits.
- Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs that can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods.
- Prepares product or system layout, detailed drawings, and schematics.
- Coordinates building of prototype products or systems.
- Troubleshoots systems, hardware, and software working individually and in teams.
- Compiles and analyzes operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or product.
- Performs testing, gathers & analyzes test data to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
- Writes, executes and documents design verification and validation tests.
- Leads design reviews, ensures product requirements are met, engineering intent is maintained, and risks are mitigated prior to release for tooling and production.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may provide work direction to technicians and junior engineers.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
- Master's Degree in Engineering is a plus.
Experience & Skills:
- Eight to thirteen years of experience, preferable in the medical device field.
- Electronic hardware design, including analog and digital circuits.
- In-circuit emulators, logic analyzers, and other debugging tools and test equipment.
- Embedded firmware development using C.
- Understanding of OOP techniques & C++ for use in embedded environment desired.
- Excellent analytic problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to work in fast paced environment while juggling multiple competing tasks and demands.
- Strong work ethic and professional commitment.
- Superb written and oral communication skills.
- Should have knowledge of: Development Software (Preferably Altium); Office.
